Wombat's General 2024
James Halliday

Hard working, sometimes mercurial Eden Valley grape growers work the land diligently to cultivate wine grapes in this elevated and beautiful part of the world. They are diverse collective of personalities represented by the singular caricature we term the Womat's General. This wine pays tribute to the characters of these growers, some having continued their family's grape growing tradition for six generations. Like the iconic Australian wombat, together as a general collective they embed themselves into the unique landscape of the Barossa. The best burrow away through all seasons of life, climate, and economy in pursuit of growing quality grapes that, in the due process of time, will come to fruition as the finest of wines. The Wombat's General have many of their own tales to tell, many tall and some true. Hard work and sacrifice, times good and bad, both of themselves and others. Acts of cunning, superstition, heroism, treachery, kindness and genoristy feature in long yarns over generous pours of chilled Eden Valley Riesling held in their sun tanned, gnarly, soil-stained hands. As you enjoy this wine with friends or family, be sure to raise a glass to those unique personalities that have become myth and legend, of the Wombat's General!
